Squad Training Geilo Norway 2012

Flying the flag in Geilo

During the 2011 camp I was told by the Manager of Geilo Apartments that things were changing within the apartment owners company and they were looking at changing the apartment structure and would be limiting the hire of the apartments and closing the kitchen. I briefly looked at other options for accommodation in Geilo as I believe it has one of the best facilities for snow training in Europe/Scandinavia. I received an email in mid May 2011 from the Apartment Manager that the apartments would not be available in 2012 and all of the “loyal” staff were leaving at the end of May. Read more >>

ISF World Championships 2012

Apr 1, 2012   //   by Mark Vernon   //   ISF, News  //  No Comments

The ESSKIA Team England squads arrived in a sunny Gressoney Saint Jean in the Italian Aosta Valley with spirits high despite the early start, a flight delay and the loss of a couple of bags by BA. We wasted no time in settling into our accommodation and sorting out the ski room ready for training ahead of the race days. Read more >>

New Website

May 21, 2011   //   by Esskia   //   News  //  Comments Off

As the more astute amongst you may have noticed, we have recently updated our website. Please bear with us whilst this work is underway.

After a number of years, we have moved away from the free (US-based) Webs hosting, and are now hosted in the UK by Vidahost. This allows us greater control over the website, and removes most of the limitations we previously had – for instance the old site had a limit on the number of pages we could create, and being based in the United States, could suffer in terms of speed.

We have also changed the domain to www.esskia.com, so please update your bookmarks.

The intention of the re-design is to make the site easier to navigate, as well as providing more information than we could previously.

For anyone who tried to register for updates on the old website, we’re sorry but that feature was never fully implemented. If you want to keep up to date, you can subscribe to the RSS feed at the top of the page.

If you have any questions, or suggestions for what you’d like to see on the site, please contact us.

ESSKIA and the Racing Year

Feb 21, 2011   //   by Rob Robson   //   News  //  Comments Off

Out going Race Secretary

As the Race Secretary it all starts around January when you start confirming slopes for the qualifiers wondering as to whether the same people you spoke with the year before are still in management at the various places. Once that is done and Area Organisers are happy the Bulletins start to go.

As you are all no doubt in the picture ESSKIA have moved onto the e-mailing process of entries etc. Contrary to the beliefs of some schools it does work and is getting better on both sides. Along with the entries we introduced the BACS way of payment; again this is working. Who knows what we will do next?
